MELANSON, Marie Alice “Helen” (Thibault) – It is with sadness the family of Helen Melanson announce her passing on March 6, 2019 at the Villa Acadienne in Meteghan. Born September 8, 1922 in Saulnierville, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Agathe Thibault. Helen lived most of her life in Yarmouth with her husband Doug Melanson and were married 64 years until Doug’s passing in 2009. In her younger years she was an avid bowler. Her other activities included knitting, gardening, travelling, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Helen worked at Cosmos Imperial Cotton Mill, Brunswick Bowling Lanes, and Woman’s Up to Date Shoppe. She was a member of St Ambrose Parish and a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch 155 Wedgeport. She is survived by her sons, Ron (his wife Ann, and their children, Elaine, Monique and Dawn); Greg (his wife Alice, and their children, Joe, Lisa and Mark);12 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. As the last surviving member of her immediate family Helen was predeceased by brothers, Alfred, Jim, Raymond, Isaac, Willis, Emery, Victor; and by sisters, Cecilia, Mae, Agnes, Marie Alice, Marie Alice Helen, Victoire Therese and Therese Victoire. The family would like to thank Dr. Julie Chandler, and the “downstairs” staff of the Villa Acadienne for their wonderful care and compassion. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium in Yarmouth. A funeral mass was held Friday March 8, 2019 at 2 P.M. from St. Ambrose Co Cathedral with Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery with a reception that followed in the St Ambrose Jubilee Room. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetic Association.
