Joseph Leonard Reid

(1930-2019)
Surrounded by the love of his family, Joseph “Joe” Leonard Reid, formerly of Bayview and Charlottetown passed into the arms of his Saviour on April 9, 2019, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in his 89th year. He was the son of the late James and Rita (Cullen) Reid; and faithful husband of 61 years to Doris (nee Gallant). Joe was father of Nadine Wakelin (Chuck), Karen Smith (friend Kevin Gallant), Gary Reid, Brenda Cole (Lawrence) and Noella Thompson (Harry). Joe also leaves to cherish his memory, his grandchildren, Jolena Wakelin, (Steven), Kyle Smith (Janell), Emily MacEwen (Kurtis), Lacey, MacKenzie, Rebecca, Morgan, Matthew, Bryce, Liam, and Hannah; and siblings, Fran Sark, Laura Quinn, Eleanor Larkin, Eileen Peters and Shirlee Mitton (Alex). Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by son-in-law, Shawn Smith; grandson, Chase Wakelin; sisters, Pauline Giroux, Margaret Simpson; brothers, George Reid and James “Pat” Reid; and brothers-in-law, Adrian Giroux, Bill Quinn, Raymond Sark, Thomas Larkin, Lloyd Simpson and Wilbur Peters. Joe was always a contributing member of his community. He was a very active member of St. Anne’s Parish, St. Anne’s Cemetery Committee and Central Queen’s Funeral Cooperative. Joe was a founding member of The New London Fire Department, where he served for over 50 years, and was set to receive a fire fighter’s exemplary service medal on the day of his passing. Resting at Central Queen’s Funeral Home, New Glasgow, until Friday, then transferred to St. Anne’s Church, Hope River for funeral mass. Interment will follow in St. Anne’s parish cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 4 - 7 p.m. with funeral mass Friday, April 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to the New London Fire Department or St. Anne’s Cemetery Fund.
