Edward John McDonald

It is with hearts broken that we announce the sudden passing of Edward John McDonald, beloved father, brother, uncle and friend. Eddy-John was 57 years old, and lived in Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia.
Having strong opinions and an even stronger personality, Ed loved to talk, debate, and share ideas and memories, having many laughs with his family and friends. Gifted, Eddy-John loved to play his guitar and work on computers, taking them apart and reassembling them. He was also a member of a dart league in Glace Bay, where he would go to have fun with his friends. But, Eddy-John really shone when it came to the heart. Kind-hearted by nature, Ed would do anything within his power to help those dear to him. This is attested to by the love and time he gave to family and friends in need, but especially by the care and support he offered his beloved parents in their final struggles in this life.
Born January 28, 1962 in Glace Bay, Eddy-John was born to the late Harold and Angeline McDonald. After high school, Ed went on to join the Canadian Army Reserves, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant. After many devoted years of service in the militia, Eddy-John went on to attain his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, graduating as an RN in 1995. Enjoying a varied career as a nurse, Ed held a variety of positions in different fields, having worked in Emergency, Acute Care, and Long-Term Care to name just a few. Besides working locally, his career was spread abroad throughout Canada and the world, with his most memorable experiences being his time spent living and working in Saudi Arabia. The experience of nursing – providing care and healing for those suffering, really gave Eddy-John a sense of purpose and fulfilment, as he always said he wanted to make a difference in the lives of others.
Predeceased by his parents, as well as various aunts and uncles, Ed is survived by his son, Bradley McDonald and his mom Stephanie Young; sister, Mary Jo (David) Jaques; nephew, Gerard McDonald and niece, Megan Jaques, as well as by various aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will take place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199) on Monday, April 29, 2019 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass for Ed will take place Tuesday, April 30 at 11 a.m. at Saint Joseph’s Parish, Reserve Mines with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eddy-John’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
