David ‘Dave’ Douglas Lawrence

Passed on: May 9th, 2019

It is with heavy hearts and sad souls that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear husband, father, son and brother David ‘Dave’ Douglas Lawrence. We gained our angel on May 9th, 2019, and as a family, we blend together with love and strength.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Lynn (Thomson) Lawrence; his son, Zackery and daughter, Zoe. Also survived by his parents, Billy and Yvonne Lawrence, of Sydney, NS. He will be forever missed by his siblings, John (Francis) Lawrence, Marie Lawrence, Thomas Lawrence, Michael (Joey) Lawrence, Martha (Lorne) Lawrence, James (Barb) Lawrence, Joseph (Gail) Lawrence, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, in-laws, friends and co-workers at Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU).
He was previously deceased by his grandparents, John and Martha Young, and William and Grace Lawrence.
Dave was employed by the NSGEU as an Employee Relations Officer for nine years. Previously, as a union activist, he organized his workplace, was the president of his union local, sat on the NSGEU Board of Directors, and he was one of the first facilitators for the NSGEU Bully-Free Workplace program. He worked tirelessly to represent the members he served. His passion for the rights of workers was second to none.
He lived an active lifestyle and in the early mornings he could be found working out at GoodLife and conversing with every passerby (except for Christmas morning, when Lynn insisted that he stay at home).
He was a member of John Albro Lodge #122, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.
Visitation will be held at the Atlantic Funeral home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, NS, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Funeral service will be held at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019, with Father Gaylen Bank, CC presiding. A private family interment will follow the service. A reception in the church hall will be held following the funeral service.
Donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Dave’s name.
Online condolences may be made at atlanticfuneralhomes.com Sackville Chapel.
Our hearts are broken.
