Violet Louise Thorne

It is with hearfelt sadness we announce the passing of Violet Louise Thorne (Phelan) on Friday May 17th at 9:25 am. Vi passed away peacefully at the QE II Hospital, Halifax.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert; parents, John and Annie, and brothers, Brian and Jack.
She is survived by daughter, Brenda (George) Leach; grandchildren, Mark, Lisa and Tera; great-grandchildren, Brent, Brittany, Jarrett, Justin, Brady, Alyssa, Connor and Lucas; great-great-grandson, Elijah; daughter, Delores (Gil) Malenfant; grandsons, Eric and Joe; and five great-grandchildren; son, Jim (Michelle); granddaughters, Amy and Jennifer; great-grandson, Alexander. Also, surviving are sisters, Vivian Gates of Halifax and Anne (Lou) Bruckmosher of the USA and brother, George (Barb) Phelan of New Minas; extended family, Wilson and Darlene Sutton; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Cheryl Ann and Julie.
Vi was a prominent business woman both in Halifax and Cape Breton; a lifetime member of the Canadian Legion and a devout Salvationist. Vi loved her Church and was always ready at the call to graciously volunteer both in the Church and community.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 21st from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at J.A. Snow Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Dr., with the funeral being held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22nd at The Salvation Army Fairview Citadel, 50 Gesner St., Clayton Park. Officiating the service will be Majors Wilson and Darlene Sutton and Captains Elaine and Jamie Locke.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Salvation Army Fairview Citadel would be appreciated.
