Lance Oakley

It is with broken hearts and immense sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Lance Arthur Oakley, a wonderful and loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born September 13, 1964, in Sydney, he was the son of the late Howard and Florence (Wadden) Oakley.
Lance is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 29 years, Carolyn (Milley) and his pride and joy, his son, Jason, for whom he fought long and hard to stay. He is also survived by his sisters, Maureen (Vince) Corsaro, Mira Road, Arlene, Sydney and Kimberly (Wally), Mira; brothers, Howard, Howie Centre, Carl, Mira Road, Leonard, his twin, (Susan), Sydney and Kenneth (Tracey), Sydney; in-laws, Jim and Joanne Milley, Brenda (Mark) Waidson, Debbie (Randy) Oakley, Jimmy (Donna) Milley and his special sister-in-law, Elaine Milley; many special nieces and nephews, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Before his illness, Lance enjoyed fishing and playing ball. Spending quality time with family, especially while camping, was one of Lance’s favourite pastimes. He was a proud and dedicated member of the Mira Road Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for many years as Assistant Deputy Chief until he retired due to illness. While bartending at the fire department during darts and special events, Lance made many lifelong friends. He had the ability to light up a room with his contagious laugh and lighthearted and loving nature, which will be missed, especially by his many nieces and nephews, whom he loved to torment and joke.
We would like to extend a sincere thanks to Dr. Burns and Linda Murphy, as well the homecare staff who provided wonderful compassionate care to Lance over the past two years. Special thanks and appreciation to Lance’s own special nurse, Paula, who was always there at a moment’s notice.
Visitation will take place at TW Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday, June 6th, 2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys on Friday, June 7th, 2019 at 11 am, with Fr. Bill Burke presiding. A Reception will follow at the Mira Rd Firehall.
Memorials may be made to the Mira Road Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of your choice.
