Viola “Joyce” Foley - age 87, of Kentville, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on a small farm in St. Croix Cove, she was the only child of Herbert and Gladys (Robar) Milbury. Forced to leave school at the age of 14 with only a grade 10 education, she helped care for ill parents and worked small jobs until 1952 when she was fortunate enough to be hired by MT&T. She retired in 1988 from Bell Aliant after 36 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was dedicated to her job and family and tried to abide by the Golden Rule. Her hobbies were reading, puzzles and knitting. She enjoyed the outdoors and nature and in later years, enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and the United States with her husband. She was a member of Bethany Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert; daughter, Geraldine Fox, Kentville; cherished grandchildren, Bradford Fox IV, St. John’s, and Elizabeth Fox III, Toronto. She was predeceased by her parents and son-in-law, Brent Fox. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Thelma MacDonald and Reverend Sarah Stevens officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the QEII Health Foundation, Valley Regional Hospital or a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, for the kindness, care and compassion shown to Joyce.
