Fred Wallace Bonnyman

Bonnyman, Fred Wallace – 86, Flt Lt (RCAF Ret.) passed away peacefully on June 15th, 2011 at Parkland Estates in Halifax, Nova Scotia after a brief battle with leukemia. Born in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Norman and Stella (Weatherby) Bonnyman. Fred grew up in Tatamagouche and went on to enjoy a successful 29 year career in the RCAF starting with war time service as a wireless mechanic from 1943 to 1946. After the war, Fred worked for two years in Halifax as a control operator at Radio Station CJCH Halifax, during which time he met his future wife Wanda Publicover. Fred re-joined the RCAF in 1949 and he was subsequently commissioned as a Telecommunication Officer in 1957. Throughout his career he held numerous positions and postings (Borden, Clinton, Trenton, Summerside, Halifax, Greenwood and Ottawa) including an overseas exchange posting with the RAF in England and as Base Commander in Flin Flon. He retired in 1975 and moved back to Nova Scotia to pursue a third career as a contracts administrator with Hermes Electronics. Following his retirement from Hermes in 1990, Fred divided his time between his beloved oceanfront cottage in Malagash, an apartment in Dartmouth, and a vacation home in Largo, Florida until his 2007 move to Parkland Estates in Halifax. Fred will be greatly missed by his son, Norman, daughters JoAnne (David) and Susan (Robert), his sister Dorothy; as well as several nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his wife Wanda, brothers Earl, Carl, John Leslie and his sister Muriel. The family would like to thank the staff at Parkland Estates for the exceptional care they provided Fred for the past 5 years. A memorial service will be held at Coulter’s Funeral Home, 48 Riverside Drive, Tatamagouche,
