We sadly announce the death of Mary VanSchaick at age 82, in Victoria Manor, Barrie, ON after a protracted struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Goirle, The Netherlands, she was the daughter of Cornelius & Agnes Maria (Peeters) VanBijsterveldt and immigrated to PEI with her husband in March, 1956. Later in life, they were long time residents of Big Bras d'Or, Cape Breton.
Mary loved welcoming visitors and guests to Mountain View by the Sea, which she managed for many years. She loved gardening and chatting with her many friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her husband Jozeph Pieter, her children: Sophia, Mieke Manley, Joseph, Patricia, Vincent, & Pieter, her sons- & daughters- in-law, Alexander Manley, Janet (MacLean), Joan (Clark), Timothy McCune, Sheila (Mettam) & Lisa (Tran), her grandchildren: Barbara, Maria, Patrick & Elizabeth Hayes; Anna-Marie, Gillian, Aiden & Sander Manley; Marguerite Dawson, Krista, Janet, Jozeph & Jakob VanSchaick, Sharon Hines & Stacey Tippeneskum; Chelsea & Magnus McCune; Ian & Mark VanSchaick; Cara & Schuyler VanSchaick, her great grandchildren: Sarah, Michelle & Kya Tippeneskum, also by her brothers, sister, brothers- and sisters-in-law: Marinus & Anna Maria VanBysterveldt, Quirijnus & Magdalena VanBijsterveldt, Frans Abrams, Johannes & Jeanne VanBijsterveldt, & Adrianna & Harry van den Broek, by Nellie Gjerlov & An (Weytens) VanSchaick, & by many nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed the special friendship of the Schellen family of Vernon Bridge, PEI
Mary was predeceased by her parents, by her sister Annette Abrams, by her daughter Anna Marie & by her son Casey.

Mary's love of children led her to be a social worker & a foster mother to 7 children as well as welcoming many neighborhood kids into her kitchen. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in her name to a local charity that benefits children.
