Margaret “Lois” Pepper

HALIFAX – Margaret “Lois” (Goodwin) Pepper – 82, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on June 19th at the Northwood Continuing Care Centre – Ivany Place.
Born in Thorburn, N.S., Lois was the daughter of the late Keith and Mildred Tanner.
Following her education at Dalhousie University to become a Registered Laboratory Technologist, Lois soon found herself moving to Fredericton, N.B. as a new bride. For the next 26 years, Lois led a very active life involved in many associations which included Christ Church Cathedral, Bliss Carmen Chapter of the IODE, Fredericton Curling Club, Fredericton Golf Club and numerous “Home and School” events with her children. In 1971, Lois graduated from St. Thomas University with a BEd. Following the untimely death of her first husband, Robert E. Goodwin, Lois moved to Halifax, N.S. A few years later, she married Ralph A. Pepper. For the next 20 years, Lois and Ralph traveled extensively and enjoyed many months each year at their beloved “Pepper Patch”, Black Point, Pictou County, with family and friends. Lois was a member of the Royal St. Georges Society, Royal Commonwealth Society, and the Ladies Guild at St. Paul’s Church. Being a member of the Goodwin family meant learning to play bridge! This became a passion Lois carried through her entire adult life, both in Fredericton and Halifax. Each morning began with completing the bridge hand and crossword puzzle from the paper.
Lois was predeceased by both her parents, her husbands Robert E. Goodwin and Ralph A. Pepper, her son Reece E.T. Goodwin, both her sisters Irene (Robert) Russell and Gene (Alex) MacDonald, nephew Dana MacDonald and all her sisters and brothers-in-law.
Lois is survived by and will be greatly missed by her daughter Nora-gene Goodwin (Randy Ball), Bedford, her cherished granddaughter Holly Gene Goodwin, Fredericton, N.B., step-granddaughters Jennifer J. Carhart, St. John N.B. and Carla B. Ball, Calgary Ata, and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531. In gratitude to God and Thanksgiving for the life of Lois Pepper, a Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated by the Rev. Dr. Paul Friesen at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 1749 Argyle St., Halifax on Friday, June 24th at 2:30 p.m. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Anglican Church. The family would like to extend sincere and heart felt thanks to the staff of Blueberry Hills, Northwood Centre for all their loving care and devotion to Lois in the past year.
