Paisiblement à Bedford, le 3 septembre 2020, à l’âge de 86 ans, est décédé le vénérable James Wallace Sparling, résident de Mystic.
Wallace a été ordonné prêtre anglican en 1967. Au fil des années, il a servi dans plusieurs paroisses : celle de St. Paul’s, à Greenfield Park, celle de Bedford et Saint-Armand Ouest, celle de St. Mark’s, dans l’arrondissement Saint-Laurent, et celle de Nelsonville (Cowansville). De 1979 à 1993, Wallace a été archidiacre de Bedford, puis est devenu archidiacre exécutif du Diocèse de Montréal, jusqu’à sa « retraite » en 1997. Par la suite, il a continué de célébrer des offices religieux partout où ses services étaient sollicités.

The Venerable James Wallace Sparling, 86, resident of Mystic, passed away peacefully in Bedford on September 3rd 2020.
Wally was born in Thorne, Quebec on May 10, 1934 to James Roy and Agnes Marjorie (Wallace) Sparling.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Dawn (nee Buckland), children Kent (Liz), Kelly Torck (James), and Shane, honorary daughter Deborah MacFarlane (Bob), grandchildren Alex, Abigail, Christopher, Phoenix, Noah, Ella, Amanda and Kevin MacFarlane, sisters Edna Monahan (late Al) and Hilda Pincoe (late Ron). Predeceased by sister Lois Bertrand (late Alec) and brother Norris (Doreen).
Wallace was ordained to the Anglican priesthood in 1967 and over the years served the parishes of: St. Paul’s, Greenfield Park; Bedford/St. Armand West; St. Mark’s, St. Laurent; and Nelsonville (Cowansville). He was Archdeacon of Bedford from 1979-1993. Wallace then became Executive Archdeacon of the Diocese of Montreal until his “retirement” in 1997, after which he continued taking services wherever he was needed.
The family wants to thank the amazing staff at CHSLD Bedford for their loving care and attention.
A service to celebrate Wally’s life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in his honour to La Fondation Lévesque-Craighead or the charity of your choice.
