WISWALL, Dorothy MacGregor - 94, of Grand View Manor, Berwick, formerly of Halifax, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 in the Manor. Born in Middleton on December 15, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Annabelle (Baker) Wiswall. She was a 1934 stenographic graduate of Horton Academy at Acadia University; a 1941 Registered Nurse graduate of the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing; graduated from McGill University in 1948 with a Certificate in Teaching and Supervision in Schools of Nursing; graduated in 1960 with a Master of Arts from Columbia University in New York and taught in the School of Nursing at Dalhousie University from 1966-1981. In addition, she was a veteran of the Second World War, having served from 1941-1946 in South Africa and Egypt with the Canadian Army. Following the war, she also served from 1952-1965 with the Royal Canadian Navy, having achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander. She retired in Halifax and enjoyed travelling throughout the world. Dorothy was also an avid golfer and curler. She is survived by two nieces, Janet (Robert) West, Niagara Falls; Margaret Cole, Torbrook; a nephew, Glen (Joan) Jefferson, Kentville. She was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Jefferson and Inez (Lamb) White; a brother, in infancy; a nephew, John Jefferson. Cremation has taken place. A Royal Canadian Legion service will be held at a later date in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and a private family graveside service will also be held at a later date in the Wiswall Cemetery, Wilmot. Donations in memory may be made to the Wilmot Baptist Church or the Wiswall Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
