Winnie Locke

It is with sadness that the family of the late Winnie Locke announces her passing at the Green Bay Health Care Centre on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the age of 79. Winnie was born to Sarah and Cecil Hill of Pinchard’s Island on February 21, 1932. She married Herbert Locke of Little Bay Islands on November 5, 1950 and together they raised two daughters Roslyn and Wanda and later, her pride and joy, Trent. For many years she operated a boarding house where boarders were treated so well, they often referred to it as “going home”. Winnie was a very hard worker and thought little of the many sacrifices she made for her family. She loved her church and especially enjoyed being a member of the Home League. She also enjoyed playing Skip-Bo, her favourite card game. Her daughters were with her when she passed away. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Besides her parents she is predeceased by husband Herbert and son Trent.
She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories daughters Roslyn (Stewart) Pynn, Wanda (Shawn) Kearley, grandchildren Matthew, Joel, Alicia, sister Crissie, brother Garfield, nieces and nephews, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held from the Salvation Army, Little Bay Islands on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 with Envoys Graham and Beth King officiating. Interment followed at the Community Cemetery in Little Bay Islands. Pallbearers were Shawn Kearley (son-in-law), Gordon King (brother-in-law), Bruce Wiseman (niece’s husband), Bob Oxford (niece’s husband), and friends Chester Batstone and Philip Grimes.
Donations in Winnie’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
