MACFARLANE, Eric Arnold - 53, of Port Colborne, Ontario, formerly of Kentville, passed away at home. Born in Sydney, he was the eldest son of Theo (Hennigar) MacFarlane (Ralph Matsell), Kentville and the late Arnold MacFarlane. He had been employed as a wheelsman for Upper Lakes Shipping, sailing on the Great Lakes. He was an avid traveler, having visited many countries throughout the world. He loved coming home to the valley and seeing his family. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Pamela Dykens (Michael Bigelow), Steam Mill; a brother, Rodney MacFarlane (Tammy Baird), Kentville; a brother-in-law, Raymond Cochrane, Grande Prairie, Alberta. He was also a special uncle to Kyle, Alyssa and Rory Cochrane, Grande Prairie; Tara and Tyler Dykens, Kentville; Valerie MacFarlane, Kentville. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a sister, Cheryl Cochrane. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation, by request. A private family funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Archdeacon Lynn Uzans officiating. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Mental Health Association.
