FOOTE, George Farish SSM – 82 of Middleton passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011. Born in Pembrooke Shore, Yarmouth County he was a son of the late Donald and Blanche (Nickerson) Foote. In early years George worked at Middleton Milling Co., Scotian Gold and J.D. McKenzie Creamery following which he spent 10 years (1952-1962) in various postings with the R.C.A.F. in Europe and Canada and received the Special Service Medal for his posting to Metz, France. He also worked for a number of years for DuPont Canada in Kingston, Ontario and retired from a position as a caretaker with the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board after many years of service at Middleton Regional High School. George was a Life Member of Middleton Branch #1, R.C.L. where he served 18 years on the Colour Party, and four terms as Honourary President. He was also a 50 year member of Valley Wing R.C.A.F.A. He was a former member of the Valley Stamp Club, Nova Scotia Stamp Club and the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada. He also had a keen interest in coins and photography and was a faithful blood donor for many years. He is survived by his son Kenneth (Heather) Foote, Conquerall Mills, Lunenburg Co.; brother Kenneth, Middleton and grandchildren Brandon, Caitlin and Benjamin. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service was held 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 12 in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton Rev. Danny Smith officiated. Donations in memory may be made to the Middleton Branch #1, R.C.L.
