Bertram Black

The death of Walter Bertram "Bert" Black, 84, of Little River, Cumberland County, occurred at the North Cumberland Hospital on Tuesday, September 13, 2011. Born in Little River, Bert was the son of the late Ira Charles and Annie Isabel (Mitchell) Black.
During his early years, Bert operated delivery services in Cumberland and Colchester Counties. He also ran a log truck and snowplow for several years. Bert had worked at the Cobequid Lumber Company, and then at Robb Engineering until his semi-retirement in 1979 when he continued his farming. In addition, Bert enjoyed gardening, hunting, snowmobiling and 4-wheeler trips to the camp.
He will be sadly missed by four daughters, Marilyn Black, Amherst, Judy (nee Forrest) (Brad) McNeil, Brunswick, ME, Elaine (Rob) Simpson, Mount Pleasant, Lorraine (Michael) Keating, Roslin; four sisters, Neita Smith, Amherst, Marge Victor, Oxford, Jean Wallace, Halifax, Emma Henderson, Little River; two brothers, Rufus, Oxford and Jack, Little River; ten grandchildren, Jevon, James, Angela, Brad, Tia, Heidi, Allison, Jennifer, Kyle and Jenna, as well as 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bert was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Lola (nee Cloney); a daughter, Joyce Lockhart; son-in-law, Brian Forrest; brother, Shirley; granddaughter Serena; great granddaughter, Emily; and his beloved dog, Wizard.
Honoring Bert's wishes, arrangements are under the care and supervision of W. Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water Street, Oxford (447-2167) from where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Friday, September 16, 2011. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm from the funeral home on Saturday, September 17, 2011. Following the service, Bert will be laid to rest beside his wife in the Birch Grove Cemetery in Little River. A reception will follow at the Nazarene Church Fellowship Hall, Oxford.
As per his request, donations in Bert's memory can be made to the Birch Grove Cemetery.
