Thelma Jean Dobson

Passed in: Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada

DOBSON, Thelma Jean – 84, of Yarmouth. After a long and gallant battle with Parkinson’s disease, Thelma has set out on her return to God. She passed away in Yarmouth Regional Hospital quietly, at peace, and with the love grace and dignity that afforded her throughout her life by God. She was kind, loving, caring and forgiving. She was also very funny, and her quick wit brightened many a dull day. She was married to Paul for 58 years; of which 31 years were spend in the RCAF in Canada, UK, Europe and Cyprus. Wherever she went, Thelma made friends quickly regardless of language or custom. She was a valuable volunteer in many organizations, including church groups and charities. She enjoyed golf and curling. During their time in the RCAF, she was known as “Sue”. She was a gracious hostess and a fine cook. She was also an accomplished craftsman in various fields, including sewing, rug-hooking and jewellery making to name a few. Paul and their daughter, Tannis Alexandra, will soon notice a huge gap in their lives left by Thelma’s passing, as will a host of friends and relatives, including sister, Margaret Goodwin, Yarmouth; brother, Ivan (Betty) Spears, Shelburne; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Thelma was predeceased by brother, Arthur J. Spears and sister, Florence Morton. Sincere thanks to Dr. Sikri and all the staff of Yarmouth Regional Hospital for their support and compassionate care. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. A memorial service was held Thursday, October 13 at 2 p.m. from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. A.D. “Bill” Newell officiated. Interment will take place at a later date. Family flowers only, please. Donations in Thelma’s memory may be made to the Parkinson’s Society or to a charity of your choice.
