William ‘Billie’ Morrison Calder, 90, of St. Georges Channel passed away Oct. 14, 2011 in Strait Richmond Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in St. Peter’s, March 24, 1921, he was the son of the late James D. and Annie (Morrison) Calder.
Billie was a self-employed woodsman and was employed as a school bus driver for 31 years with the Richmond County School Board. He was also a veteran of the Second World War.
Surviving are his children, Jean (Everett) Landry, St. Georges Channel, Carol Calder, Sydney, Donald (Phyllis) Calder, Pictou, Jack (Angela) Calder, Sydney, Norma (Cecil) Skinner, Halifax, Ross Calder, New Glasgow, Robert (Connie) Calder, St. Georges Channel; sisters, Margaret Warren, Vernon, B.C., Christene Wheaton, Halifax; grandchildren, Nyree, Estee, Andre, Gaetan Landry; Christian Nichol; Dwayne, Adam Calder; Shari, Bradley, Erin Calder; Justin Skinner; Corey, Nathan Calder; Matthew, Braeden Calder and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mabel (Ross), brother, John Calder, sister, Jessie MacDonald.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral Service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in Black River United Church with Rev. Donna Tourneur officiating. Interment in MacKay Cemetery, St. Georges Channel. A time of fellowship will follow in the St. Georges Channel Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the MacKay Cemetery, Strait Richmond Palliative Care or charity of one’s choice. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.haverstocks.com.
