ROBERT PORTER RUMBLE
1922 - 2011
Robert Porter Rumble came into this world on October 2, 1922 in Rouleau, Saskatchewan. Pa passed away at the age of 89 on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor Brown (1922-2004), father Dean Ellis Rumble (1892-1977), mother Mary Leona (Holmes) Rumble (1895-1998) and his brothers Dale Holmes (1921-2010) and Daryl David (1925-2000). He is survived by his sister Maxine (Howard) Kennedy and family, his son Ron (Linda Passmore and family), brother-in-law Cecil Akins (Peg) and family, and sister-in-law Bertha Rumble and family. Pa was raised on the farm with his siblings and met his future wife Eleanor at Adelaide School. He graduated school in Rouleau and at the age of 18 he left the farming life to join the Royal Canadian Air Force just in time to train pilots and fly submarine patrol over the coastal waters of Newfoundland during World War II. While stationed on the East Coast he sent a registered letter containing an engagement ring to Eleanor and they were married on March 29, 1949 for 54 happy years. In 1953 they adopted Ronald. Pa served in the Canadian Air Force as a pilot and after many postings and 3 years in Metz, France, Pa, Eleanor and Ron settled in Winnipeg in 1959 where he was the base test pilot until he retired in 1971 after 30 years of service. Bob and Eleanor enjoyed their retirement at Buena Vista on Last Mountain Lake where they built a beautiful home. They enjoyed 20 years at the lake renovating, gardening and enjoying life with frequent trips to visit with relatives and loved ones. Failing health moved them into Regina and a few years later into Moose Jaw. Ma passed away on February 9, 2004 and Pa and Ronnie settled into a house in Moose Jaw for the next 6 years. Pa had to leave for Extendicare in 2010 where he spent the last days of his life. Pa can now say “Good night sweetie” to Ma every night. He will be with her now and forever. A great son and brother, a loving husband and the best role model a son could ever have… Bob left his mark. Good night Pa and Sweet Dreams. A Memorial Service will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel, 106 Athabasca Street East, Moose Jaw, on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan, 1231 8th Street E., Saskatoon, SK S7H 0S5 or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 2550 Broad St., Regina, SK S4P 3Z4.
