Mary Patricia Ward (Walker)

Feb. 27, 1923-Nov. 1, 2011
Age 88. It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother and grandmother Mary “Nan” Ward.
Mary was born Mary Patricia Walker in Charlottetown, P.E.I., February 27, 1923. She was the daughter of Alexander and Ella (Trainer) Walker.
Mary grew up in Charlottetown along with her brother Earl. She married Arthur Gerald Ward and moved to Dartmouth in 1944 where they lived and raised their family. Mary was an active member of St. Thomas More Parish. Mary loved spending time with her family and friends and shared many laughs and stories about her early days in P.E.I., where she spent every summer with her family until her death. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and tended her garden at the cottage with great enthusiasm. She also loved to play cards and was known to win a hand or two.
Mary is survived by her son James “Jimmy”, Dartmouth (Mary MacPherson); her daughter, Patricia (Harold “Ted” Lahey), Dartmouth; her son-in-law, Denis Turbide, Dartmouth; her grandchildren, Shelley (Frank), Scott and Brian (Christine) Ward, Juanita and Adam (Courtney) Sherlock, Jason (Mona) and Stephanie Lahey; her great-grandchildren, Morgan, Jarrett, Josh, Amber, Marguerite, Donovan, Gennevieve and Brandon; and one great-great-grandchild, Marleigh. Mary leaves behind many close friends and relatives. She will also be greatly missed by her good friends Ernie and Nancy, who have been her neighbours for over 45 years.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Alex and Ella, her loving husband Art and her daughter Geraldine Turbide.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street, Dartmouth. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at St. Thomas More Parish (corner Main and Caladonia, Dartmouth), Father Randy Doucette, celebrant. Burial will be at a later date in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
