Phillip Reid

REID, PHILLIP J. - The death of Phillip J. Reid, husband of the late Mary Monica (Hogan), occurred on November 4, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Fairville on August 19, 1921, he was a son of the late Charles and Margaret (Keenan) Reid. Phil was the last surviving member of his immediate family and a veteran of the Second World War. He was one of five brothers who served overseas in various branches of service, and all were fortunate to return at the completion of the war. Phil is survived by his son Andy Reid (Wendy Barton) of Saint John; daughters Linda (Stephen) Wood of Saint John, Donna (Joe) Matthews of Moose Jaw; grandchildren Sean (Jennifer), Vanessa (Ryan), Jillian, Monique (Travis), Stephanie, and Shannon; great grandchildren Aidan, and Cedric. Phil will also be remembered by his brother in law Steven (Rose) Hogan of Glace Bay N.S., as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings George, Margaret, Claire, Roy, Dorothy, Richard, Robert, Bernard, Edward, and Joseph. Phil worked at Irving Pulp and Paper in the Steam and Recovery Department for 33 years. Phil was a devoted husband for 67 years, and a caring and compassionate father and grandfather. He was an avid reader and a great handyman.
Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with visiting on Monday, November 7, 2011 from 2 to 4, and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday November 8, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St Rose of Lima. The interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, and reception at Fallsview Family Reception Centre. The family would like to thank the I.V. Team and the palliative care wing at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Dad.
