T. Herman Bartley

BARTLEY, T. HERMAN - 1921 - 2011 - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Herman Bartley on November 5, 2011, at the Upper River Valley Hospital at the age of 90. He was born on October 30, 1921 in Beaconsfield, New Brunswick. He was the sixth child of Wellington and Alice (Flewelling) Bartley. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 62 years, Audrey; four children - Brenda Keenan (Neil), Nancy McAuley (Gordon), Brent Bartley (Faye), and Janet Gillis (Michael); eleven grandchildren - Kim Thomas (Ian), Jill McAuley (Trevor), Nicholas Keenan (Sarah), Jenna McAuley, Maureen Keenan, Emily Keenan, Jordan Gillis, Tommy Gillis, Brandon Bartley, Ben Bartley and Katie Gillis; three great granddaughters - Noella Thomas, Aurora Keenan and Sydney Thomas; one sister - Grace Lee of Saint John; one brother - Claude (Jeanne) of Portland, Maine and one sister-in-law Gemma Bartley of Houlton, Maine; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, four brothers and three sisters. Herman served as a Sergeant in the Canadian Army during World War II and served overseas from 1942-1945 with the Three River Regiment. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #37 for over 55 years. Remembrance Day was always very important to Herman. He would proudly march with fellow veterans and participate in the school assemblies and church servies. He was a member of the Florenceville Curling Club for many years. He was employed by the Department of Agriculture from 1962-1986 as a Potato Inspector. During his retirement years he enjoyed curling, fishing, hunting, playing crib, telling stories, travelling and spending time with family and many friends. He was a member of Saint Barnabas Anglican Church in Greenfield.
