Passed on: November 7th, 2011

Kenneth Gordon (KG) Probert
Born January 29, 1948 in Craik, SK
Died November 7, 2011 in Regina, SK
Friends and family remember Ken for his love of literature and academia, his pure enjoyment of communal gatherings and his passion for teaching. His soft chuckle, sometimes punctuated by a whoop of laughter, livened up many a family get-together. Ken graduated from Central Collegiate, Moose Jaw, at the age of sixteen and explored a number of options in university, including pre-med and law, before discovering his passion for English Literature. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Masters Degrees from the University of Saskatchewan. He then pursued his Doctoral Studies at York University, in Ontario. Ken’s first position was three years with the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg where he made several good friends. Ken was excited to join the faculty at the University of Regina in 1982, and pursued a tenured career until his retirement in 2010. He taught in the English Department, including a term serving as Department Chair. His colleagues remember a man who gave generously of his time and insight to both his students and colleagues. Ken was a long time supporter of Saskatchewan writers and the Writers guild. Friends and family recall his special trademarks: his collection of Converse running shoes, his passion for music and the arts, his eclectic CD collection and state of the art stereo system. Always present whenever the opportunity arose for a family gathering, Ken enjoyed many events in Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Elbow and Buffalo Pound Lake. His Mother Lilian predeceased Ken in 1955, Mother Shirley in 1968, and his Brother Mike in 2004. He is survived by his father Lloyd and siblings Bruce (Kathy), Lilian Traquair (Glenn), Nadine (Jim MacLaurin); Derwin (Judy); and sister-in-law Michelle. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Derek Traquair (Angela), Ian MacLaurin (Becky), Michael MacLaurin (Hazel McLachlan), Mark MacLaurin, Adrianna Traquair, and Tyler Probert.
