It is with broken hearts that we say goodbye to our loving mother, grandmother and sister, Elizabeth McLellan of Glace Bay. Betty left us after a brief illness on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Catherine (McIntyre) Jessome.
Betty was predeceased very early in her life by her loving husband, John, leaving her to raise her cherished family on her own. Betty dedicated her life to the care of her family, a labour of love in which she took great pride and happiness.
Left to mourn are her daughter, Norma (Jerry) Young, Ontario; sons, John (Marie) and Robert (Valerie), Glace Bay, Danny, Texas; brother, Michael Jessome; sisters, Helen Charumski, Sharon Boutilier; devoted friend and daughter at heart, Linda Pittman; also Mary Arsenault; nephew, Michael Kelly and especially, sister-in-law, Patricia O’Leary. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jaclyn Elizabeth and Stephanie Young, Ontario, Michael, Kayleigh and Brehan Butler, Halifax, Jamie and Garrett McLellan, Glace Bay, and Danielle McLellan, Alberta.
Besides her parents and husband, John, Betty was predeceased by her daughter, Cathy, infant daughter, Elizabeth, brothers, Henry, Angus, sisters, Grace, Josephine, Molly and Eliza.
In honoring Betty’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation for Betty will be held Thursday, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
