WAYNE DONALD RICE
1949 – 2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Wayne Rice announce his passing at his home in Robert’s Arm on November 25, 2011 at the age of 62.
Wayne was born to Bram and Margaret Rice on April 23, 1949 in Grand Falls, NL. After graduating high school, Wayne’s first job was as a cook’s helper, with his father Bram, at a road construction site. From there he began working with the Department of Highways as a Surveyor Assistant. In 1970 he decided to further his education and enrolled at Memorial University where he studied Engineering and later decided to pursue an Education Degree.
Wayne started his teaching career at Crescent Elementary and taught at various schools in the area until his retirement in 1999. After his retirement, he spent the summers working with his son in Toronto as a seasonal worker.
Wayne was an outdoorsman. He spent much of his time boating, hunting and fishing with his best friend Clayton Parsons.
Wayne is predeceased by his sister Karen and his grandparents. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife, Gail; son, Philip (Benita) of Bolton, ON; and daughter, Lori Miller (Tony) of Robert’s Arm. Also left to mourn are parents, Bram & Margaret; sisters, Myra Pritchett (Wayne) and Sandra; grandchildren, Anthony, Adam & Taylor; long-time friend, Clayton Parsons & family; and a large circle of relatives and friends
