Passed in: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

STOUTENBURG - Harry Stoutenburg passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2009, at the Cypress Regional Hospital, after struggling with health issues. Harry was pre-deceased by his wife Dorothy; his parents, Herbert and Mary; his brothers, Lorne, Gordon, and Elmer. Harry is survived by his four children, Brian (Lewauna), Lavina (Murray), Patricia (Ken), and Niel (Judy); his 9 grandchildren; his 8 great- grandchildren; his sisters, Vera and Dorothy; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Harry was born on March 30, 1928, in Ernfold SK, where he attended school to the eighth grade. Harry and Dorothy (VanKoughnett) were married July 1, 1950. After working at a number of jobs, that took him around AB and SK, Dad started work as a roughneck on the rigs for Mobil Oil in 1954, at Pennant SK. He settled in Swift Current in 1966, after living in Drayton Valley, Calgary, AB and Alida SK. During his early years in Swift Current he enjoyed curling, being a member of the Oilfield Technical Society, and of course golf. He took up the game of golf while living in Drayton Valley and continued to enjoy his walks on the greens till he passed away. Being on the golf course was his second favorite place, his first being at home with Dorothy, especially when it was full of grandchildren. He enjoyed working with others on all sorts of projects from house building to vehicle maintenance. He had a very quick mind when it came to working on things mechanical and was often asked for advice in that regard. When Dad retired from Mobil Oil in 1983, he started to explore the country by camping. Over time, he owned several different trailers and vans. Along with his brother, Gordon (Fay), and Bert and Isabelle Wiens, he took to the road for three months to discover the beauty of Canada from the prairies to PEI. It was definitely a highlight for both him and Mom. While we are saddened by his leaving we are consoled by the many fond memories of his life with us. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, November 6, 2009, at 2:00 pm from the Swift Current Funeral Chapel, Swift Current, SK, with Dennis VanKoughnett officiating. The pianist for the service was Roxanne Funk with special music brought by Kevin Funk singing, “Peace In the Valley” and “Old Rugged Cross”. The eulogy was shared by Niel Stoutenburg. “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder” was sung by the congregation. Honorary pallbearers were Carey Bingham, Derek Shaver, Desmond Bingham, Samantha Lowe, Sarah Stoutenburg, Emily Stoutenburg, Joshua Stoutenburg, Kate Durant and Tony Johnson. The Interment of Cremains will take place at a later date at the Enfold Cemetery, Ernfold, SK. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to any of the following: Canadian Cystic Fibrosis: Canadian Diabetes Assoc.: Canadian Cancer Society: or the Tuberous Sclerosis Assoc. Thank you for your kind support. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
