On December 1st, 2011, Werner Theodor Blum of Westlock, AB passed away at the age of 83 years after a brief illness.

He leaves behind his wife Thelma Blum, sister Made Hoss, step-sons Dwight (Valerie) Hala of Westlock, AB, (grandchildren Steven (Carmen) Hala of Fort Saskatchewan, AB and Tricia Halaof Westlock, AB), Russ (Brenda) Hala of Kamloops, B.C. (grandchildren Mitchell (Jessy) Hala and Matthew (Katrina) Hala both of Kamloops, B.C.), and Ron Hala of Abbotsford, B.C, great-grandchildren; Adara Hala and Boden Hala, and nieces and nephews: Sonny & Bernardo Walterspiel, Peter & Manuela Hoss, Gund Hoss & Ruediger Raeuchle and Andy Hoss & Matrtina Heukrodt all in Germany.

Werner was born May 17th, 1928 at Stuttgart, Germany to Ernst Blum and Helene Schweitzer. He had one brother and three sisters.

After WWII, Werner took a three year course in agriculture and worked on farms from 1946 to 1951. He moved to Arcola, SK in 1951, where he worked various jobs from 1951 to 1961. In 1961, Werner moved to Weyburn, SK to work at the Psychiatric Hospital and graduated as a psych nurse in 1965. It was here where he met his future wife Thelma Brown.

Werner, Thelma and the boys moved to Yellowknife, N.W.T. in December 1966 where Werner was employed at the jail for almost two years. They moved to Kamloops, B.C. and worked at a school for individuals with disabilities from 1968-1972. They moved to Abbotsford, B.C. for Werner to work for the Forensic Institute at Matsqui, B.C. penitentiary until 1975 and then moved to Port Coquitlam, B.C. where they both worked at the Riverview Hospital until they retired in 1998. They then moved back to Kamloops, B.C where they remained until coming to Alberta in 2009.

A service will be held at a later date.
