Bruce Lawrence Curtis, 76, of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, died at home in Texas on Dec. 7, 2011.
Born 1935 in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Gordon and Winnifred (Phiel) Curtis of North Sydney and stepson to the late Eileen Curtis of North Sydney.
Preceded in death by his wife, Annette, a son in infancy, brother, Blaise Curtis of Calgary, and sister, Shirley Cox of North Sydney.
He is survived by brothers, Bernie of Ball's Creek, Pat of Moncton; two sisters Bernice (Mrs. Simon Fraser) of North Sydney and Linda (Mrs. Donald Stewart) of Merigomish. Three children, Gordon, Sharon (Mrs. John Steeves) and Susan (Mrs. Larry Lausch) and grandchildren, Ismail Martino (Gordon Curtis and Christy Martino) and Macey Lausch.
Bruce grew up in North Sydney served in the Canadian Air Force and married his sweet heart, Annette Viva from Florence in 1961, they settled in Massachusetts where they raised their children. He worked for Hendrie’s Frozen Foods for 35 years until retirement. Bruce and Annette, along with many friends and family members built their dream retirement home in Jersey Cove, Cape Breton, enjoying good times together. Bruce carried on the dream of visiting the cabin each year, spending some of his last days there in September 2011. He will be laid to rest alongside Annette at the St. Stephen's Cemetery in Florence, Cape Breton. Memorial service will be held in Cape Breton by family at a later date.
