Rita Milner

Milner, Rita May
1925-2011
Rita Mary Milner, 86, of Sackville, NB, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 9, 2011, after a very short stay at The Grass Home in Riverview.
Rita was born on 10 October 1925, the daughter of the late Levi and Helena (Bourque) Legere of Sackville. She was a graduate of Sackville High School class of 1944, and served in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps from 1944 to 1945. An avid bowler and dancer in her younger years, Rita remained an active member of her community. A Life Member of the Catholic Women’s League, she served several terms as President of the St Vincent’s Parish CWL, as well as, NB Provincial CWL president for a term. Rita was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and for many years sat on the Tantramar Planning Commission. She remained involved with the local Progressive Conservative party until her final months. Perhaps the only things she loved more than being surrounded by and talking to people (and eating lobster and chocolate) were her grandchildren and great grandchildren; they were the light of her life.
Rita is survived by her three children, Michael (Jean), of Lower Sackville, NS, Marc (Barbara) of Fredericton, and Margaret (Dave Devenney) of Windsor Junction, NS; three brothers, Val (Aline) of Sackville, Bob (Anne Clarke) of Lakeville NB, and Levi Jr (Leah) of Chilliwack, BC; a sister, Margaret O’Connor of Moncton; six grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah (Mike), Ian, William (Jen), Kristin (Matthew) and Cameron and two great grandchildren, Norah and Lachlan. She was predeceased by three brothers; Arthur, Marc and George, and by her husband William (Bill) Milner in 2006.
Rita's arrangements have been entrusted into the care and supervision of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge Street, Sackville (364-1300) from where visitation was held 7-9 pm on Sunday, December 11, 2011. A funeral service was held at 11 am from St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church on Monday, December 12, 2011. Father Allison Carroll officiated. Following the service, Rita was laid to rest beside her husband in the Westcock Cemetery.
CWL Prayers were held at the funeral home on Sunday at 8:30 pm.
The Sackville Branch, #26, of the Royal Canadian Legion, held a memorial service on Sunday, December 11, at 7 pm from the funeral home.
Donations in Rita's memory can be made to the Westcock Cemetery, St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church or a charity of one's choice.
