Maxine Kent Johnson passed on to Heaven at Nakile Home for Special Care on her 89th birthday, Dec. 17, 2011, surrounded by her family.
Originally from Argyle Head, she lived her married life in Sydney, then returned to Argyle approximately 25 years ago. After self-educating herself, she passed her GED and went to Business College, then went on to take the real estate course. She met her husband, William Johnson, while he was stationed in Yarmouth during the war. She married William after the war and they lived in Sydney all their married life up until his death in 1976.
She was a member of Argyle Pubnico Baptist Church, as well as a member of the Women’s Missionary and a leader in Ladies Bible class. She loved knitting, needle point and reading. Maxine was a precious mother who gave her all for her “family”.
She is survived by son, Brian Johnson (Janet Rose); daughter, Janet (Frank) Gates; grandchildren, Carla and Amanda Johnson; Brandan Gates and Keah Comeau (Marc), as well as their children, Mason and Allie; brother, Oliver (Doris) Stevens; sisters, Fannie Mason and Ona Brittain.
She was predeceased by husband, William, brothers, Howard and Lyman Stevens.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Monday, Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service followed at 2 p.m. from Argyle Pubnico Baptist Church with Rev. Denis Kerwood officiating. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
