Passed on: December 15th, 2011

McARTER - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Lorna Janice “Jan” McArter on December 15th, 2011 at the age of 70. Jan was born on August 23rd, 1941 in Saskatoon to George and Bess McArter. She graduated from Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw and then moved on to Montreal with her parents where she attended MacDonald Teachers College. Jan lived most of her adult life in Moose Jaw where she raised her family. She worked at Sears and substitute teaching in the public school system. Once her family was grown, she went back to school at the University of Regina to earn a bachelor of education degree. Jan was a teacher who specialized in English and English as a second language. She has a book filled with letters from her students thanking her for the extraordinary efforts she put into helping them achieve their goals. Nothing made her happier than to see her efforts pay off in someone else’s success. Jan had such a generous spirit. She will be greatly missed by many. Jan was predeceased by her parents Bess and George and by her beloved brother-in-law Michael Connor. She is survived by one son, Grant Sorochan (Karen) and their children Michael, Alex and Rachel; and by a daughter, Laura Remezoff (Eugene) and their children Joelle and Sara; also by her dear sister, Lynn Connor. A memorial service will be held at a later date, anyone wishing to honor Jan’s memory may do so by making a donation to the charity of their choice.
