JOHNSON, CLAUDE A. - 1927-2011 - It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Claude Alphonse Johnson of Bathurst, N.B. which occurred December 28, 2011 in the Palliative Care Unit of Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 84. Claude was born in Richibucto N.B on February 22, 1927 . He was the son of the late Alphonse Johnson and the late Alice Leger. Claude’s two passions in life were his family and his work. He inspired his family with his loyalty, tremendous work ethic and his attention to detail. Claude worked in many capacities during his lifetime. He was founder of Johnson Van and Storage. After retirement in 1971 he drove school bus. His kindness and generosity made a lasting impression on his young passengers. He treasured the many cards and thank you letters they made for him. His creativity and entrepreneurial spirit led to the development of another successful business venture known as Johnson Tackle Manufacturing which grew to supplying fishing tackle to retailers throughout the Maritime Provinces.
Claude is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Helen Mary Catherine Black, daughter Christine MacInnes (Paul), son Peter John (Marie), son-in-law Dr. Michael Evans and grandchildren Jillian, Curtis, Faye and Grant. He was predeceased by his second daughter Cynthia Mary Evans in 1996, his parents and his sister Therese Moriarity. Other remaining family members include three brothers, Gerard Johnson, Dr. Ernest B. Johnson and Dr. Alphonse Johnson (Shirley). One sister, Carmel (Byron) Dobson, all of Halifax, N. S. and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of LeGresley’s Funeral Home, Grand Anse N.B. At Claude’s request cremation has taken place. A private family service will be arranged in the spring. His remains will be interred in the family plot at Holy Family Cemetery, Bathurst, N.B. Donations in memory of Claude may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada or the Chaleur Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
