Geertruida “Trudy” Westerhuis - 95, of Kentville, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2012 in Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville. Born in Holland, she was the daughter of the late Jan and Jannetje (Doppenberg) Propitius. As a young girl, she helped on the family farm milking cows. She immigrated to Canada in 1951, settling in Woodville, Kings County, later moving to Habitant, Cambridge Station and Kentville. She had been employed with Avon Foods, Port Williams in the 1960’s and helped her husband in the chicken barns. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church, Kentville, the Habitant Women’s Institute and enjoyed knitting, cooking, flowers and gardening. She is survived by a daughter, Maria Westerhuis (Leonard Jackson), Kentville; two grandsons, Billy-Joe “BJ” Harvey (Karen Wannamaker), Kentville; Johnathan Harvey (Deanna O’Neil), New Minas; two great grandchildren, Taylor and Blaze; a brother, Hendrick Propitious, Holland; several nieces and nephews; close family friend, Gerrit “Jerry” Tenyenhuis, Kentville. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Jan; four sisters, Jannety Troost, Jacobje Simon, Gerritje Schipper and Janna Wilhelminia van der Berg; two brothers, Jan and Evert. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in the Christian Reformed Church, Kentville, Pastor Bert Vanderbeek officiating. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Christian Reformed Church, Kentville or the charity of your choice.
