Kaye Attwood, age 101, a former resident of 85 Highland St., Glace Bay, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home in Antigonish.
Born in Glace Bay in 1910, she was the daughter of the late Michael Peter and Mary Catherine (MacNeil) MacInnis.
Kaye was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay.
She was a graduate of Normal College, Truro, and taught school for many years. Kaye was a member of the Retired Teachers Organization; she was involved in the, Each One Teach One program, and taught at Mount Carmel, New Waterford and various schools in Glace Bay until her retirement.
She was an active member of St. Anthony parish, Glace Bay. She served as a Eucharistic minister, lecture greeter, taught religious education, served on the parish council and was a member of the St. Ann Sodality. Kaye was an active member of the Family Alumni of MacLeod’s Nursing Home.
In her younger years she was a proficient Gaelic singer. Kaye loved family baking, 45s, crib, bridge and travelling.
Kaye is survived by nieces, Frances Marie Moore (Gerard), Glace Bay, Anita Girroir (Robert), Antigonish, nephews, John MacInnis (Cora), Ottawa, Peter MacInnis (Rita), Glace Bay, Mike MacInnis (Rosalie), Antigonish; and great- nieces and nephews.
Kaye was predeceased by her former husband, Basil Attwood, sisters, Florence and Margaret MacInnis, brothers, Francis, Peter and Mike MacInnis.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be held at a later date in St. Anthony’s Church followed by interment in the parish cemetery. As an expression of sympathy for Kaye, memorial donations in her memory may be made to St. Anthony’s parish, Glace Bay.
