The death of Ella Dorothy DeWitt age 90, of Amherst occurred peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, NS.
Born in Spencer's Island, NS she was a daughter of the late Alonzo and Muriel (Borden) Allen.
She was a special mother, grand-mother, great and great- great grandmother, her family being the most important part of her life.
All who knew Ella loved her for her positive outlook on life, always living with a "glass half - full" attitude.
She was an avid camper, and enjoyed fishing and gardening. Ella had a passion for wildlife and nature, taking great pleasure in the company of her cats. She loved music and it was a happy part of her whole life.
Ella being a very social person loved to chat and tell stories that always brought smiles to the faces of her listeners.
Residing at White Birches, these last two years, Ella made many new friends. She enjoyed card games, crokinole, music and parties.
Ella was the "youngest" "90" year old anyone would know, always up for a new adventure.
She is survived by three daughters, Pamela (Lannie) Patterson of Tidnish Bridge, Janice DeWitt of Niagara Falls and Sharilyn (Kirk) Williams of Bermuda, one son David (Shelly) DeWitt of Chapmans Settlement, four grandchildren Darren, Andrea, David and Corinne, five great grandchildren Kyle, Nathan, Justin, Wyatt and Caitlin, one great great-granddaughter Jaida and three step grandchildren Terry, Kyle and Nick.
Ella was also survived by one sister Ruth (Art) Smith of Amherst and one brother, Douglas (Edith) Allen of Port Greville, NS as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Melbourne and one brother Walter and son in law Rick Armstrong.
As Ella's wishes were to have no formal visitation or funeral service her family will gather together to share happy reflections of her life.
Memorial donations in Ella's memory may be made to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Foundation.
