Oscar Waldon Carty - 88, of Woodville, Kings County, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on May 15, 1923, in Amherst Head, he was a son of the late Robie and Jessie (Mills) Carty. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served overseas in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during the Second World War. After returning home to Nova Scotia, he married his wife, Marjorie (Arnold) in Woodville, where they made their family home. He opened and operated Carty’s Garage for 49 years. He was an avid dart player, loved to square dance and attend musical jams. During the summer months, he enjoyed his gardening, going camping and having his family around him. He was a life-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick and a veteran of the Waterville and District Fire Department. Oscar is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marjorie; his children, Robie (Diane), Woodville; Sheila (Emery) Salsman, Upper Clements; Waldon (Brenda), Grafton; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Ivy Greeno, Orillia, Ontario; Bessie (Bert) Nelson, Amherst; brother-in-Law, Robert (Ardythe), Grafton; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Oscar was predeceased by his step-father, Fred Mountan; sisters, Daphne, Marguerite and Audrey; brothers, Neil and Kenneth, in infancy. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012, with a Royal Canadian Legion service held at 7:00 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2012, Pastor Christina Bigelow and Reverend Murray Shaw officiating. A private family interment took place in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Waterville and District Fire Department or the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick.
