BROOME, Roland James “Rollie” – 80, Kentville formerly of New Ross passed away peacefully on Monday January 30, 2012 in Shannex - Orchard Court, Kentville with his Niece Phyllis Hughes by his side. Born in New Ross Roland was a son of the late Ralph and Nellie (Acker) Broome. Rollie worked as a woodsman and in construction most of his life. He also travelled during several fall seasons to Maine to pick apples. Rollie loved people and visiting friends and family. He was very active in community affairs. He was very close to his nieces and nephews especially his great nephew Colin Hughes. Rollie was a member of Christ Anglican Church, New Ross. Rollie enjoyed outdoor sports, fishing and hunting. He also played cards with friends and neighbours throughout New Ross and The Forties. Rollie is survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Rollie was predeceased by sisters Verna Ernest, Ora Walker, Doris Lenihan, Quennie Walker; foster brothers George Wentzell and Gordon Ritchie. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 in the Serenity Lindsay Funeral Home, New Ross. Funeral was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012 in Christ Anglican Church, New Ross with Reverend Valeria Rhymes officiating, interment in the Christ Anglican Church Cemetery. Donations in memory of Rollie may be made to the Christ Anglican Church. The family would like to thank the wonderful caring staff of Orchard Court, Kentville for their exceptional care of Rollie.
