It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Conrad John Musial, 81, of Gardiner Mines, on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Michael and Bertha (Boutilier) Musial. Conrad worked in Nos. 12,16, and 18 collieries and in 1967 went on to work for M & B Meats.
He also worked at the Cavalier Tavern in New Waterford. He was a member of St. James parish in Gardiner Mines and an honorary member of the Dominion Hawks Club. Dad was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved nothing more than to be up to his hips in the Margaree River. Music was a great part of his life; himself playing the accordion, piano, guitar and boy did he love to dance. Dad's family was his greatest passion and he was always there to help others; a self professed Jack of all trades and master of none.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Hazel (Burke); daughters Toni McNeil (Walter), Dominion, Valerie Morrison (Gerry), Reserve; brothers Greg Musial (Anne), Gardiner Mines, Paul Musial (Sue), Antigonish; sisters Bertha MacDonald (Archie), Gardiner Mines, Isabell Musial, Dominion; grandchildren, Lisa McNeil Campbell, Carrie McNeil, Evan Morrison; great-grandchildren Presley, Carter and Gabrielle.
Conrad was predeceased by one son in infancy; brothers Mike and Charlie; sisters Leonora, Rena, and Toni.
Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 6, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. in St. Eugene's Church, Dominion, with Father Daniel Boudreau officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Gardiner Mines with a luncheon to follow at St. Eugene's Hall, Dominion.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
