Maggie O’Brien, lifelong resident of Glace Bay, passed away with her daughter and son-in-law by her side at Villa Marconi, Ottawa, Feb. 2, 2012. Mag had resided with her daughter for the past four years and recently, due to ill health, had been transferred to the Villa Marconi long term care.
Mag was predeceased by her husband Michael (Mick), sisters, Laura Spencer, Alfreda Caines, Christina Atkinson, Minnie Lyons, Mary Martin, Jane Ryan, Lavina Parsons and Edith Parsons and brother Tom Parsons. Mag leaves behind her daughter Sharon, dearly loved son-in-law Michel Savard; grandchildren Steven, Toronto, Jenna, Vancouver; and many loving nieces and nephews, especially Carol McCarthy, Lily Lyons, Wilma Butts and cousin Magdalen Snow Hamelin, who were always there for her. Special thanks also to Yvonne Kennedy, Homeville and Joan Allison, Ottawa who were friends but more like family.
Cremation has taken place in Ottawa, celebration of life service to be held at a later date at St. Luke’s United Church, Donkin.
Mag was a passionate card player and loved her years at Kennedy Drive, bowled for years at Knox Bowling Center and St. Anne’s Parish. Mag was always thinking of others, making soup and cookies and giving it all away and as one of my friends said, she was one of the nicest mothers I ever met and one of the best neighbours.
She will be missed but we know she is now at peace.
