Daniel “Little Danny” Laffin
20 years of Remembrance
Feb 9, 1992
A coal miner’s love is like no other found,
True, simple and endless abound,
Our father was a coal miner, who worked in the mine.
Never to complain of the darkness or his lost time.
He went to the deeps to make an honest living,
To provide for his family the real meaning of giving.
He said ‘My wealth as a coal miner would never come from the coal,
It came from the beauty of my children, in whole”.
Exposed to the deadly risks that were found underground,
The coal dust would take you, only too soon, on-ground.
We often take for granted that you can miss so much,
Not seeing your face, your love and your touch.
As I pause for a moment and reflect, this I sadly say,
That you were too young to be travelling to heaven to stay.
It’s been 20 years since you were called home from God above,
Gone in our life but never far from our love.
Your children are so proud of you, of the mark you left.
Some wait a lifetime and have so many regrets,
You are our father, our hero our light,
You are with us each day as we journey through life.
