Barbara Joan Constable, of Moncton, formerly of Riverview, passed away at age 80, in the Moncton Hospital, on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, after a lengthy illness.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 58 years, Horace G. Constable; daughters, Gail Constable of Sydney, N.S. and Linda (Daniel) Clark of Norton, N.B.; son, Howard (Donna) of Quispamsis, N.B.; along with her pride and joy, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; her only brother, Ron (Barb) Vigars of Westport, Conn., and her sisters-in-law, Beatrice (Bea) (late Bud) Constable of Moncton; Hazel (Richard) Rickard of Riverview and Rita (late Herb) Farley of North Vancouver, B.C.; her brother-in-law, Ralph (late Mary) Constable; her dearest friend, Betty Strong (the sister she never had), of Toronto; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Barbara was a former medical secretary, having worked in Sydney and Moncton.
Her love and pride were her family and the home she worked so hard to provide for them. She liked doing crossword puzzles and to walk, snow shoe, cross-country ski, and enjoyed over 25 years of round and square dancing, along with skating with the Bi-Centennial Skating Club, with her husband, Horace. An avid reader, she would often bring 12 to 14 books home from the library to keep her going for two weeks.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Richard W.P. and Shirley (MacArthur) Vigars; brothers-in-law, John ‘Jack’ L. (late Greta) Constable; George ‘Bill’ (late Mary) Constable; Lester (late Eileen) Constable; Burden ‘Bud’ Constable; Herb Farley; sisters-in-law, Helen (Constable) (late Watson) Wilbur; and Mary E. Constable.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Moncton Hospital, the Moncton SPCA, or a charity of donor’s choice.
Family will receive friends and visitors at the at St. Paul’s United Church Hall, 404 Cleveland Ave., Riverview, (phone 386-3335), on Sunday, Feb. 12, from 3-5 p.m. Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service at the funeral home, in keeping with Barbara’s wishes. Arrangements are in the care of Cobb’s Funeral Home, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview, (869-2007).
