It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved Mother, Rhodena (MacDonald) MacLeod, 80, on Feb. 8, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with her family by her side.
Rhodena was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Loch Lomond, to the late Alexander and Sarah (Munroe) MacDonald.
She attended nursing school at the City Hospital, Sydney. After graduation in 1954, she worked as a RN in Dartmouth, and retired in 1995, after 20 years of service, from the Richmond Villa, St. Peters. She established Ian Macleod and Sons General Trucking in 1957, and worked side by side with her husband and two sons for 50 years. She also owned and operated Salmon View Log Cabins until her passing.
Rhodena was an active member of the Grand River Presbyterian Church, Seniors Club, and Women’s PC Association. She loved spending time with her family and friends, baking with her daughter and granddaughters, playing cards with the girls, Wednesday night darts, and walking on Pt. Michaud Beach.
Predeceased by her loving husband Ian MacLeod (Feb. 10, 2002), brothers, Donald (Mary MacDonald), Loch Lomond/Sydney, Melvin (Bella MacDonald), Mass./Gabarus, and sisters, Dinah (Duncan Matheson), Grand River, and Rachael (Jim Baldwin), Louisbourg.
She leaves to mourn her sons, Sandy and David Grand River; daughter, Darlene (Bob Bickerton), Sydney; granddaughters, Beth (Sheldon Groom), St. Peters, and Leighea MacLeod, Grand River; great-grandchildren, Ian and Isla Mae Groom, St. Peters; sisters, Christy Mackenzie and Norena (Billy MacLeod), Grand River; sister-in-law, Marie Adams, Grand River; and several special nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Green’s Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. A wake will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 14 from 2-9 p.m. at the Grand River Presbyterian Church. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Grand River Presbyterian Church, Rev. Murdock MacRae presiding.
