1920 ~ BECKER ~ 2012 Mr. Alexander "Alex" Becker, beloved husband of Mrs. Mary Becker of Medicine Hat, Alberta passed away on Saturday, February 11th, 2012 at the age of 91 years. Alex also leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Myrna (Keith) Porter, Norma Jean Lindsay (Ray Fewer), and Edith Mae Becker (Tim Peddly); five grandchildren, Sean, Devin (Alexandria), and Kendra Porter, Brad Lindsay (special friend, Sarah Bajak), and Kimberley Lindsay (Alick Kilsby); two great-grandchildren, Keenan and Xavior; three sisters, Kathleen Anderson, May Smyth, and Hazel (Dayton) Toney; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Becker and Kay Holtby; Mary’s family; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Violet Becker; one grandson, Graeme Porter; two brothers, Ken and Bill; one sister, Violet (Kelly) Holtby; and one brother-in-law, Jim Anderson. Alex was born on August 30th, 1920 in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan to Violet and Fred Becker. Over the years he mastered the banjo, tenor guitar, mandolin, and even tried his hand at the violin. He loved music - although unable to read notes he had a good ear and learned to play old tunes that he still played up until three days before he left this world. Alex married Mary Catherine Haggart-Chapman in Medicine Hat on July 27th, 1950. They farmed in the Gull Lake area where they raised their three daughters. Alex and Mary moved to Medicine Hat in 1978 and many new friendships were formed. They enjoyed travelling and entertaining. Alex was an honest, hardworking man and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. The Funeral Service was held in SAAMIS MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL, #1 Dunmore Road SE, Medicine Hat, on Wednesday, February 15th, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Kevin Johnston officiating.
