VERSLOOT, GERDA - Gerda Versloot passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital from this earthly life to eternal life in heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 18, 2012. She was born on February 7, 1931 in Montfoort, Holland. Her parents were Evert vanWoudenberg and Zwantje denHartogh. She had four brothers and three sisters. Gerda lived her life serving others. She gave and gave, never expecting anything in return. Many loaves of homemade bread and rolls, cinnamon breads, chocolate chip cookies, sugar cookies, spritz, coconut squares, meatballs and good “old fashioned homemade meals” were baked and cooked in her kitchen. She baked and cooked not only for family and visitors, but also for the annual church bazaar, for Cadets, church dinners and for Children’s Camp. Gerda loved flowers of every kind. She used to say that Henry Pot’s flower garden (where she was allowed to pick as many flowers as she wanted) was her “Heaven on Earth”. She would patiently arrange those flowers in vases, one at a time. Sewing, knitting, crocheting, crafting and gardening were some of Gerda’s other interests. Gerda is survived by George, her loving husband of more than 55 years. She also leaves behind three sons, Peter Versloot (Grace), George Versloot (Tracey) and Eric Versloot (Marcia); three daughters, Margaret Thompson (Ellis), Yvonne Brilman (Andre) and Evelyn Bokma (Donald) ; daughter-in-law, Karen Versloot. Gerda’s 19 grandchildren and five great grandchildren were very, very special to her. Gerda loved being an Oma and a great Oma! She felt very blessed to have such a large family! In addition to her parents, Gerda was predeceased by her son, Arthur; two sisters, Eef and Anny; two brothers, Gert and Evert.
Visitation will take place at the Fredericton Christian Reformed Church, 121 McAdam Avenue, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. A service celebrating her life will be held at the Fredericton Christian Reformed Church, 121 McAdam Ave, Fredericton on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 2 pm with Pastor Harold Winter officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be her grandsons, Adrian and Aaron Thompson, Nathan, Lucas and Nick Bokma, Daniel, Ryan and William Versloot. Interment will take place at a later date. For those who wish, memorial tributes may be made to Bibles for Missions, CRWRC (Christian Reformed World Relief Committee) or a charity of your choice. Gerda’s family is grateful for the medical services of Dr.Irrinki, Dr. Shauss, Dr. Haswell, Dr. Ecker, the VON’s who came to the house and to all the great nurses and student nurses on 3SE.
