New Glasgow – Michael MacDonnell. It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Patrick Hyndman MacDonnell report his passing on February 25, 2012.
Michael was born on Jan. 3, 1925 as a son of James Hyndman MacDonnell and Norah St. Lawrence MacDonnell (nee Linaker).
He was predeceased by his wife Mary Katherine MacDonnell (nee Chabassol) and all but one of his siblings. He is survived by his brother: Finbarr James Hyndman MacDonnell, London, UK; his sons: Seán (Jocelyne), Chance Harbour; Pat (Candace), Plymouth; grandchildren: Madeline (Blair), Halifax; Ryan (Michelle), Williams Lake, BC; Anne (Thekla), Chance Harbour; Caitlin (Trevor), Linacy; Mark (Nina), Toronto; John (Diane), New Glasgow; and great-grandchildren: Dakota, Carter, Grant, Zoie, Melia, Madison and Clint.
Michael was a veteran of WWII when he was a member of the RAF and flew in the Halifax bomber. He immigrated to Canada in 1947, where he eventually made his home in Pictou County. He was a very skilled and well-known cabinetmaker.
The family would like to thank the staff at Valley View Villa where he was a resident for the last 22 months, and also the staff on the 4th floor of the Aberdeen Hospital.
All the best, Dad and Papa, we hope you were in heaven a half hour before the devil knew you were dead. You will be deeply missed. The wake will be held 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. The funeral will take place at 11 am Wednesday at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church with Father Gary MacPherson officiating.
