Passed in: Canada
Passed on: March 8th, 2012

We celebrate the life of Alexina (Ina MacKinnon) Giovannetti - wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother - whose cheery smile and caring disposition brightened the day of all who knew her. Born in Inverness County, NS, in 1914, she was the daughter of the late Donald A. and Annie J. MacKinnon, with whom she moved to Coleman, BC, as a child.
Ina was a proud graduate of the Royal Victoria hospital in Montreal in 1937, where she nursed for some years. Always a lady, her passing, on March 8, 2012, at Sarcee Hospice, Calgary, AB, saddens all who loved her. Prior to her 18 years in Calgary, she and her husband, Gerald, resided in Sydney, NS for over 50 years.
Ina is survived by her four children, Donald Giovannetti of Keswick, ON, David Giovannetti(Lynda) of Dartmouth, NS, Laureen MacKenzie (John) of Cochrane, AB and Jane Stothers (Ken) of Calgary, AB; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Gerald (2002); one sister, Catherine Sasges; an infant brother, Alister; and daughter in law, Wendy Giovannetti.
Ina was devoted to her family, and was deeply interested in the people and world around her. She was appreciated for her many stories, beautiful knitting, and yummy oatcakes, which she dispensed liberally to many grateful family members and friends.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at McInnis Holloway Crowfoot Chapel, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W, on Wednesday, March 14 at 3.30 p.m. Graveside service will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Sydney, NS, this summer. Special thanks for their compassionate care is extended to Dr. J Mayhew, Dr. Stassen and Unit 51 of Peter Lougheed Hospital, Drs. Faulk and Shankel and the wonderful caregivers at Sarcee Hospice and to the staff of Colonel Belcher Seniors' Residence.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
In living memory of Alexina Giovannetti, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W. Telephone: 1-800-661-1599.
