I. Willis Lunn

Upper Onslow and Advocate Harbour

LUNN, I. Willis – 70, Upper Onslow. In shock and sorrow, the family of Willis Lunn announces his sudden passing on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax following a fall at his home. Born in Advocate Harbour, he was a son of the late Marden and Cassie (Morris) Lunn. “Will” attended schools in New Salem, Advocate Harbour and Parrsboro. He graduated from Nova Scotia Teacher’s College in 1965. His teaching career began in Shubenacadie District School, that later included the principal’s position. Longing to return to classroom teaching, he moved to Truro in 1975, teaching at both Douglas Street and Alice Street Elementary. He loved the interaction with his students until his retirement in 1994. He was an avid curler and member of the Truro Curling Club. “Will” passionately involved himself in environmental issues. He was a true outdoorsman with a deep love of nature. His refuge was his woodland, wilderness property and his camp at Bennett Hill. He also loved summers at the cottage in Advocate Harbour where he enjoyed boating, ATV’ing and visits with old friends. Willis was a “master” of practical jokes and his sense of humor was enjoyed by most. He is survived by his wife, the former Linda McWhirter; sons, Kelly, Bedford; Dayne, Halifax; brothers, Duncan (Lorraine), East Advocate; Dale (Paulette), Enfield; granddaughters, Madison and Eden; niece, Shelley Cole, Elmsdale; nephews, Ronald Lunn, Dartmouth; Kevin Lunn, Dutch Settlement. He was predeceased by a nephew, Richard Lunn. Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday [March 23, 2012] at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday [March 24, 2012], Keith Selwyn-Smith, DLM officiating. Burial in the Advocate Cemetery. Reception following in the Advocate Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the following environmental groups that meant so much to Willis: the David Suzuki Foundation, World Wildlife Fund of Canada or Nature Canada.
