O'NEILL, EDWARD "WARD" SIMON BA, MA, PhD - Edward “Ward” Simon O’Neill, 68, of Moncton, passed away suddenly at his residence on Monday, March 19, 2012. Born on July 6, 1944 in Ottawa, ON, he was the son of the late Virginia C. (Mahoney) O'Neill-Silkstone and the late Edward E. O'Neill, step-son of the late James F. Silkstone and beloved grandson of the late Simon John and Blanche (Villeneuve) Mahoney. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Stockman) O'Neill and father of Melissa and Jeremy (Beverly) O'Neill, all of Moncton; well-liked and respected brother-in-law of Rick and Bonnie Stockman of Bowmanville, ON, Karen and Ken Gough of Williamsburg, NY, and Kathie Stockman of Toronto, ON. Ward attended Ottawa's Saint Patrick's College where he obtained his BA. He took two courses in psychology, peaking his curiosity, and this lead to him doing his Masters and PhD in experimental psychology at the University of Toronto. Upon completion of his doctorate, he was hired by the Université de Moncton where he remained throughout his 38 year teaching and research career. Ward was a kind and gentle man who also loved a good argument on almost any topic; he will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank all of our friends, neighbours and colleagues who have helped us in this difficult time.
A celebration of life will be held at Frenette Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Sunday, March 25, 2012 at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton.
