It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, on Monday, March 26, 2012, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
He was born in Groves Point, Cape Breton, on Jan. 7, 1932, to Judson and Ruth (MacKinnon) Taylor. His mother Ruth died shortly after his birth from complications of child birth. He was raised by his father, Judson and grandmother, Isabel MacKinnon. He grew up on the family farm with his sister, Jean and brother, Hughie.
He started his career at the Bras D’or Coal Company as a mechanic. He then continued his career at Stora Enso, Point Tupper as a stationary engineer and supervisor in the ‘Steam Plant’. He was a long-time member of the Port Hawkesbury Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He loved gardening and had his best success with flowers. He was a true gentleman and lover of life. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and friends on many school, hockey, swim team outings. He especially enjoyed skiing in the winter, camping and spending time on the beaches in the summer. During his retirement he enjoyed outings with his only son, Judson and their many friends.
Lewis with his kind spirit and infectious laugh will be forever missed by his family and those who knew him. He leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn (Young); daughters, Lana (Steve Hadley), Ruth (Wayne Fowlie), Lois (Earle Woodill), all of Mulgrave; Faye (Phil Baldwin), Frankville; Lisa (Don DeCoste), Mulgrave; Sheri (Gary Wood), Cape Jack; Sandra (Trevor Gauthier), Ft. McMurray Alta., his only son, Judson (Vanessa), Frankville; 19 grandchildren, Taylor, Rebecca, Joel, Leah, Matthew, Andrew, Virginia, Breanna, Robert, Riley, Clayton, Bobby, Carlee, Randy, Alison, Lewis, Jack, Daniel and Dawson; four great-grandchildren, Emma, Sam, John and Clara. He is also survived by his sister, Jean (Stan Vickers), Sydney Mines.
He was predeceased by his brother, Hughie (Elaine); his father, Judson.
Visitation will be held today, March 29, from 2-9 p.m. with funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, all from Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
Donations may be made to the St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation.
