Peacefully surrounded by her family at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility Barbara Reid of Westmount passed away on March 31, 2012, at the age of 83.
Barbara was the only child of the late Daniel and Gladys MacAskill of Westmount.
Barbara was employed for 24 years in housekeeping at St. Rita’s Hospital, Sydney. She enjoyed Bingo, darts and playing cards. She was involved with both the WVF department and the Westside Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Barbara leaves behind three sons, Gordon (Greta), Westmount, Brian (Christine), Fort St. John, B.C., Blair, North Sydney; four daughters, Gail (Ralph) Charlong, Westmount, Sharon (Mike) Kennedy, Westmount, Nancy (Breton) Lumsden, Calgary, Linda (Gary) Fenten, Nanaimo, B.C.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind five sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm ‘Mackie’ Reid, daughter Karen in infancy and son Daniel Reid.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A celebration of Barbara’s will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. A reception to follow in the funeral home.
